Sabul Hajeen was a wizard, a Civic Guildmage, who summoned the angel Kotara to Zhalfir while it was part of the contient of Jamuraa on the plane of Dominaria.

Descrition[ | ]

Sabul was young and slight of frame, with the beginnings of a scholar's stoop. He wore the elaborate pearl- and ivory-colored vestments of the Civic Guild, the fraternity of wizards who serve Zhalfir as jurists and lawmakers. A marble diamond amulet, a source of great power for sorcerers of his guild, hung around his neck. After the murder of his brother, his features were haggard.[1]

History[ | ]

In c. 3850 AR, Sabul Hajeen summoned the angel Kotara to Ki'pamu, the capital of Zhalfir. Sabul told Kotara that his young brother Axdan Hajeen had been murdered in an alley by Multam Ilmiera. Sabul sent Kotara out to kill the murderer, who had escaped Zhalfirin justice.[1]

However, when Kotara returned with her mission complete, Sabul had not had enough, and he was not satisfied with Multam's quick death. He ordered Kotara to kill Multam's cousin Yirtag Ilmiera slowly. Sabul proceeded to have her kill other accomplices and relatives of the killer - Eskander Ilmiera and Otori Ilmiera both fell to her blade. These evil acts started affecting Kotara, who changed both physically and mentally, losing her radiance and her connection to the Divine Will. Eventually, this weakened Sabul's summoning spell enough for her to almost kill him then, before reconsidering. Then, when Sabul sent her to kill Ferren Tynlo, a man who was not even born as part of the Ilmiera family, Kotara abandoned her mission and returned to Sabul.[1]

Surprised at how quickly her mission had gone, he was shocked when she attacked him for what he had done to her. But Sabul had realized the error of his ways, and repented, accepting his death at her hands. She left him to be killed by a demon summoned by the Ilmieras as their last defense. Sabul prepared to face the demon, a knight of the Pit, but he was hopelessly overpowered. Just as he was about to fall, Kotara returned and intervened in the battle. She and the demon struggled, but eventually, she abandoned her defenses to wound the demon grievously, allowing Sabul to exile it. This cost Kotara her life, and as she bled out on the floor of his house, Sabul wondered what would happen to her beyond death.[1]

Later, Sabul sided with the Ilmieras, the house that killed his brother, against the Hand of Justice, forging an alliance that would finally bring peace to Kipamu.[2]
