Salvation was once a primal force in a world that came before Dominaria, meaning it originated from some unknown other plane, and was likely brought to Dominaria by the planeswalker Urza.
History[ | ]
Salvation is an ancient, mysterious entity. It manifests as a sphere, intricately adorned with red patterns on an ivory surface, shaped in the huddled form of a creature. The goblin Squee kept the sphere as his most prized possession, imbuing him with immortality. Most know this Salvation Sphere as Squee's Toy. As part of the legendary Legacy Weapon, the sphere carries an enigmatic essence, older than the plane itself, making it a target for Phyrexian forces seeking to exploit its power.
Hundreds of years later, Squee discovered a sleeper Phyrexian agent among his clan, heralding the return of the Phyrexians to Dominaria.[1] His ward, Bulp, was revealed to in fact be the compleated Phyrexian Ertai, who had come to torment Squee and recover the Salvation Sphere. Ertai's goal was to compleat Squee, transforming him into a weapon for Phyrexia.
Despite Squee's immortality, Ertai and the Phyrexian-infiltrated goblins subjected him to relentless torment and transformation.[1] Now partially compleated, Squee showcased new abilities and machinery embedded within his body. In a twist of fate, Squee was crushed by boulders, triggering an explosion that destroyed the mountain and all its inhabitants, including the Phyrexian agents.
In the aftermath, Squee found himself in a new, ethereal realm, devoid of the familiar palace he visited upon each death.[1] The Salvation Sphere, now revealing its true, enigmatic nature, floated before him, indicating a moment of transcendence and an impending revelation about his existence and the true nature of the sphere. It granted Squee one last life to live before sending him back to the realm of the living.
Trivia[ | ]
- Salvation's nickname, "Squee's Toy," is a pun playing on the term "squeeze toy."[2]
