Sand is a rarely used token-specific creature type.

History[ | ]

The type was first used for Hazezon Tamar to represent the storyline that he could create Sand copies of himself. Until the printing of the Nephilim, it was the only use of this token. Hazezon would get another iteration years later in Dominaria United with the box topper Hazezon, Shaper of Sand.

Sand warriors were reused for the Thunder Junction Commander card Sand Scout.

Ironically, Sand Golem never received this creature type, despite being made of sand itself. Hostile Desert, a land that can become a creature, also wouldn’t receive this creature type, despite similar reasoning. Basri Ket, the sand-mage from Amonkhet hasn't yet been released on a card featuring sand tokens either.
