The Sea of Laments is the central sea separating the Terisian Isles.

Description[ | ]

The Sea of Laments borders Gulmany in the west, Almaaz in the southwest, Yavimaya in the south, and New Argive in the east. It connects to the Sea of Almaaz in the west, the South Sea in the southwest, the Shielded Sea in the southeast, the Endless Sea in the north, and the Videnthian Sea in the northeast. The sea holds several islands, most of which used to be peaks of the Sardian Mountains. The largest island is Jharth, a remnant of the land north of Ronom Lake.

The Sea of Laments covers what used to be the Boreal, Tresserhorn, Frost Marsh, the Northern Wastes, as well as most of the Adarkar Wastes. It also covers the areas that used to be the Great Desert and the Sword Marches during the Brothers' War.

History[ | ]

The Sea of Laments came into being during the Thaw when the meltwater that had been locked into the four glaciers of Terisiare started to rush out. The Flooding of Terisiare occurred over several decades, and the water pooled across the central parts of the continent, separating it into smaller isles that became known as the Terisian Isles.

During this period, wizards and sages from the School of the Unseen wandered over most of western Terisiare, from the dwindling shores of Lat-Nam itself to the Sea of Laments. During these critical early years they helped evacuate, rescue, and resettle those whose homes and towns were lost to the floods.[1]
