Signature Spellbooks, introduced in 2018, were the spiritual successor to the From the Vault series, but were themed around a Planeswalker or legendary character and the spells that define who they are.[1]
Description[ | ]
Each box set contained eight different cards, as well as a foil card which could be any of these eight cards.[2] They had an MSRP of $19.99.[3]
According to Sam Stoddard, one of the goals of the Signature Spellbook Series was to make sure as many of the cards as possible would end up in decks as opposed to binders.[4] Gavin Verhey added that the chosen amount of cards assured that every reprint was relevant, and fluff was avoided.[1][5] He also noted that legendary creatures as the featured character were a possibility, as were multicolored sets.
After the release of a spellbook per year on being introduced, there wasn't one in 2021.[6] Their place seemed to be taken over by the Commander Collections which finalized the color pattern.
