Soldev was an independent Kjeldoran city-state in Terisiare at the time of the Dominarian Ice Age.

Description[ | ]

Soldev was inhabited by expert machinists who loved to work with artifacts and was known for its clockworks and artisans. It was located in the north of Kjeldor, close to the ruins of Storgard and near the Raynor Glacier.[1]

Soldev was like a clean, pristine machine. There was little detritus and no beggars in the inner city. The walks were swept and gutters empty, and clear fountains played in the central squares, each one noted by a clock that chimed its unique song, harmonious with the songs of those at nearby intersections, on the hour. The tile roofs shone in a multitude of colors, and all were bright and well-polished. The spires of the machinists lanced upward through the city like steel needles. These steles were long and thin and supported on the outside by a framework of metal struts. Within these thin structures were the offices and labs of the various representatives of the machinists' guild. Yet the most interesting structures of the inner city were the Soldevi Steam Beasts - huge triangular boxes, each box resting on twin metal legs, scattered seemingly at random. They towered over all but the spires, and they vented white clouds of steam every so often. Flexible pipes draped from the sides of these odd constructs, lead into surrounding buildings.[2]

History[ | ]

One Soldevi, Sorine Relicbane, was outspoken against the use of the machines, fearing a repeat of the Brothers' War. He was branded a heretic for his efforts. Soldev's greatest artificer, Arcum Dagsson, was the chief proponent for the machines. Ultimately, Arcum's Soldevi Steam Beasts betrayed him, joining the Phyrexian War Beasts that the Soldevi Adnates had expropriated in destroying Soldev. The Fall of Soldev was absolute, completed when Jaya Ballard's planeswalker spark erupted, causing a firestorm that lasted for two full days.[3][2]
