The Sword of the Realms, also called the Tyrite Sword, is a weapon from Kaldheim created from tyrite by Koll, the forgemaster for the god Halvar. It is capable of cutting through the Cosmos itself.
History[ | ]
A talented dwarven smith, named Koll, had the finest metals in all the realms at his disposal, but was never truly satisfied with the quality of his materials. He would constantly leave the safety of the city in search of new ores or rare minerals that might spark his interest. One day, while foraging, Koll was attacked by Sarulf. He almost lost his life, but the god Halvar intervened and defeated the monster. Where the monster fell, Koll spotted a shining chunk of Tyrite. Halvar tried to stop him, but Koll ran to the material and touched it—transforming his hand into Tyrite itself. After getting over his initial shock, Koll discovered that his Tyrite hand was able to handle the godly material safely. Out of gratitude, Koll swore that he would forge the Tyrite into the finest blade the realms had ever seen as a gift for Halvar. He worked nonstop for days upon end before emerging from his forge with a blade so sharp it could cut a path between realms, a blade he called the "Sword of the Realms".[1]
Koll's work called the attention of the planeswalker Tibalt who, disguised as Valki, tried to persuade the dwarf to give him the Sword. After Koll refused to hand over the Sword, Tibalt killed the dwarf and took the Sword for himself.[2]
Tibalt used the sword to open omenpaths, travel between the realms and cause havoc.[3] Two other planeswalkers, Kaya and Tyvar Kell followed Tibalt to Immersturm where they were accosted by a couple of demons. Because of this, they were unable to prevent Tibalt from creating a Doomskar before they managed to take the sword from him.[4]
In Bretagard, Kaya, Tyvar, and the leaders of the Clans were advised by Alrund to take the Sword of the Realms to its rightful owner Halvar, so that the god of battle could end the Doomskar. Mounted on a giant raven Kaya, Tyvar and Arni flew toward Halvar, but near the destination they were attacked in midair by the demon Varragoth who wanted the Sword for himself. Kaya used her powers to save her companions from death, but they ended up falling close to the Dread Marn, Karfell's army. Arni stayed behind to slow the zombies while the two planeswalkers would take the Sword. In the middle of the way, Tyvar heard the sound of the horn of Skemfar's army and separated from Kaya to warn his brother of what was happening. Near the location of Halvar, Kaya was attacked once again by Varragoth, but was saved by the elves. While Tyvar and the army of elves fought the demons and zombies, Harald helped Kaya to reach Halvar. By focusing, Halvar managed to close all the cracks and end Tibalt's Doomskar. Now the Sword has returned to its true owner.[5] After the battle, he disappeared with the Sword.
