Tae Jin was a young monk follower of Shu Yun, in the past of Tarkir. Officially, he was part of Ojutai's clan.

As a secret Jeskai shaman and Ghostfire Warrior, he was persecuted by Ojutai's dragons. Tae Jin travelled to Atarka territory to tell Yasova Dragonclaw about his visions of the youth of Ugin and Nicol Bolas.[1][2][3] Both granddaughters of Yasova, Naiva and Baishya, took a shine to the handsome warrior. Following the death of two Atarka and Ojutai broodlings, the hunting band was confronted by Atarka herself. They were only saved because Tae Jin had a vision of Nicol Bolas, and impressed Atarka with its tale. The dragonlord allowed Tae Jin to join the Atarka Clan, protecting him from Ojutai's henchmen.[4]
