Tafre is a scarred adventurer, trapfinder and storyteller on Zendikar. He has a hole of missing flesh in the middle of one of his hands and a scar from an exploding keystone rune.[1]

History[ | ]

Tafre was stationed at Fort Keff at the earliest stages of the Eldrazi awakening on Zendikar. Fort Keff was an encampment tucked in a ravine in Akoum, and Tafre was there when Gideon Jura stopped by to rest for a night.

During the evening, Tafre told Gideon tales of his hand scar and shared that during a boar hunt in the jaddi grove just under Sawtooth Ridge, the world had gone black, and he had awoken in a field of flesh. It was a thing of madness, an expanse of fleshy meat and bone, all mixed with yellow dust that burned his nose and eyes. He had to wade through the knee-high carnage until he reached the ridge, and beyond that, he saw that the world on the other side was still a pristine wilderness.

That night, a strange creature wandered into the camp and was put into a cage. Tafre explained to Gideon that it was Bala Gedi surrakar, and called it a simple beast, but Gideon noticed it had a certain intelligence and was capable of speech. Gideon left the camp the next day, and it is unknown if Tafre survived the Eldrazi's decimation of Zendikar.
