Current Block Short Stories[]

Instead of having the section essentially duplicating information on this page, we could sort the table the other way around with the most resent on the top and the earliest one on the bottom. Since the dates are now in ISO format you can sort them that why with a click anyway. So I started doubting the usefulness of this section. Thoughts? - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 19:35, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Reverse chronological order makes sense to me. At the same time, perhaps insert full-width header rows to mirror the categorization used on the official site? --Corveroth (talk) 20:06, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Hmmm... I am not quite sure about the full width header, what would you put in there the name of the plane? That wouldn't match well with the chronological sorting... Perhaps the set name? - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 20:15, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Storyline articles on set/block page?[]

This might have already been discussed, but shouldn't we had links to the storyline articles on the set/block pages? It's weird to me that a player looking for infos on the storyline of a specific block can't find anything in the "Story" section except a couple of lines of summary of the block's premise. And as useful as this chronological table is, i don't see players combing throught it to find the articles they might want to read, especially since no "Set" article links here. 78.203.253.117 14:55, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Think that is a good idea. I would say an extra column can be added. which would display the set name. - Yandere Sliver H09 symbol 16:41, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

The link to Plans walkers guide to Kaldheim seems to be broken.[]

Not much of a wiki editor but I just thought I should point it out, it leads to a page saying no results found.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 109.76.96.175 (talkcontribs) 1 June 2021.

Seems to work now. - jerodast (talk) 15:23, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Lots of Broken Links[]

I know this is a problem similar to many other portions of the Magic site with other articles, but most of these stories all lead to a 404 page. It might prove useful to use archive.org addresses for any content.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by ETHPhonehome (talkcontribs).

Change "magic-story" to "feature" to fix some links.[]

As the title says. In the URL if you change "magic-story" to "feature" many of the links will work properly, however not all of them for some reason.

For example:

https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/fblthp-2013-12-25 doesn't work.

https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/fblthp-2013-12-25 however, DOES work.

I tried to edit the page but when I went to save changes, the server did not respond in time, so I gave up. Hopefully someone else can fix them. ‎—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tyretian (talkcontribs).

I followed up on your suggestion --Hunterofsalvation (talk) 05:41, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

YouTube readings & Podcast episodes[]

This topic is really two questions:

  1. Should the Magic Story podcast episodes be tracked in a table along with the actual fiction stories? (My suggestion is on a sub-tab)
  2. WotC seem to be sticking with the YouTube story readings. Should those be part of the existing table or a new sub-tab?

The Magic Story readings don't have a playlist on YouTube yet but here's an example - #MTGEldraine Story - Ruby and The Frozen Heart

I'm in favor of adding both, maybe in a separate section? Neither generally adds new story content, but they are both official story sources.
I'm also always unsure where to link for the podcast. The only direct Wizards link is on the announcement article, which does list every episode in a Transistor embed but you can't link to them individually. Otherwise we'd have to pick a platform of choice, which I guess could be Transistor but I'm not sure if there's an official preference there. RudleyDudley (talk) 04:51, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
The main landing page https://magic.wizards.com/en/news also has the Magic Story podcast player in the "Podcasts & More" section, along with Drive to Work and the set Soundtracks (didn't know that was a thing). I think Transistor is the correct link source. It's usable on both PC and mobile with no additional installation and it's the link generated when you click the "Share" button on the embedded player. If it's good enough for WotC, should be fine for us.-- RivalRowan (talk) 05:07, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Re: Fan repository[]

Recent edit questions the inclusion of a fan archive of the Magic Story column. I'll throw my voice in to say that I think it's a great idea, because Wizards has repeatedly demonstrated poor stewardship of their digital legacy, with archival content breaking or completely disappearing with every website revision. Maintaining awareness of third-party backups seems like a necessary response. --Corveroth (talk) 05:47, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

I agree that it might be a good idea to save the posted stories to the wiki before they are broken beyond repair, like many have been already. Several lead to a 404 page, and are not to be found even when searching for the name. The amount of articles that are simply gone from the WotC site is indicative of how little care is taken to preserve the history of story articles on site. I've made some local versions on the wiki of the articles I could track down off-site but there's no guarantee that some of the others from the Wotc site will also be lost in future changes to the official website. User:Varghedin (talk) 10:27, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
I see now that Seasons of Setessa appears to have been lost and there is no repository for it anywhere that I can find. That story might be lost forever. If we'd put the story up here first, it would have been saved. I can make some pages for at least the older stories so that we don't lose those too. User:Varghedin (talk) 14:12, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
I 100% agree that Wizards of the Coast is a poor steward of their own digital legacy and that the community needs to pick up the slack and preserve it in their place. I just don't think the Wiki is the resource that should be doing it when it falls outside of Wiki guidelines (i.e. preserving primary sources). There is currently a combination of efforts to preserve things:
  • Ormos - A scrape of Internet Archive preserved articles from the Mothership.
  • MTG Lore - A repository of the digital stories.
The Seasons in Setessa story is in both repositories (here and here, respectively).
-- RivalRowan (talk) 20:00, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Those links are very useful, thanks! Unfortunately neither of those show up on a Google search, so I was unable to locate those stories when I searched. I then propose that we at least change all the dead links in the wiki mtg story to connect to the story in one of the repositories. {{SUBST:User:Varghedin/SigX}} 08:48, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
