Card A "refers to" Card B is... tacky; is there any other way to phrase it? Perhaps "alludes to", not necessarily "refers to"? I feel that the cards allude to other cards, and that "allude" is a stronger word to use. Just my two cents. MM (talk!) 00:49, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

I would think that this is just word-play. The crux of it, is that we want to minimize the word count because "refers to" is sort of redundant. Another way is maybe "hint at" or making a table, something like this: (Don't know how wiki's handle tables, so it's going to be a bit of ascii art ;))

|TS Card | Cards that are referenced |
|Ana Battlemage |Anavolver and Thornscape Battlemage|
|Blightspeaker | Cackling Imp and Defiant Falcon |
| ... | ... |

And so on. This would both minimize the sheer text, and in my opinion give a better overview. In a way, though, I think the references are a bit overzealous in that almost any reference can be found for the card e.g. "Cradle to Grave refers to Terror and Premature Burial." The terror reference is a bit of a reach. But oh well. --GWiZ665 02:09, 13 April 2007 (CDT)

There are column templates on - they are not here though as I tried using them. like the one found here - I was clicking random articles until I found a page that had a table/columns. --GeoMike 03:18, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
"Interjection!", a couple months late, as are the above replies: firstly, I've addressed this below (see comment here); I absolutely agree with you GWiZ665, there's too much of this "refers to"; it's almost sickening and nauseating... another point of concordance we have is that, yes, it is perhaps a "bit overzealous" - save I'm a bit more frank about it now that it's been there and on virtually every single set/expansion article. :s Or perhaps not; not yet anyway.

On that "Cradle to Grave" and "Premature Burial", I'd make mention of that other one "Destroy target non-black creature" or whatever it is in whatever Time Spiral block set it is in (I think Future Sight - most probably, because this article was written, of course, in the past; and the info was probably added prior to 'Future Sights release). After that, I'd include this as a true point of interest, with a reference (a article that was published (online) a while ago), indicating that it's confirmed that this is meant to be. Someone commented the Spirit Link ability is not a black ability; however, Spirit Link does fit with the black theme of "draining life" and moreover initially occurred in a black card, El-Hajjâj. -Anonymous 13:45, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

"Refer", formerly/maybe still used in "Planar Chaos", and definitely used in "Planar Chaos/trivia"[edit source]

Whoever who's made use of the term, please refer to your local dictionary (here's's definition); "to refer" does not mean "to allude" or anything of the like in, or at least "to allude" as required in this sense - synonyms aren't great, either.
Also, ignore the "to make reference or allusion: The author referred to his teachers twice in his article." from (it's in the academic sense, and still one wouldn't use it unless quite formally); that's not the sense of "to make (reference or) allusion". The cards themselves do not reference anything; if the flavor-text blatantly spelt out that "Through the ages, AQSZ has been blaherddsaf to become BURBLKS", or whatever, okay then; but otherwise, it doesn't reference it at all.
