Temmet was a cleric to the Amonkhet gods, responsible for taking care of the Anointed. Not older than 16, he was a vizier of Oketra, but his duties brought him in contact with all the five gods. Other than the Anointed, he also supervised the viziers of the other gods.[1]

Storyline[]

Though he was technically a vizier of Oketra, Temmet's work brought him in contact with all five gods. He truly viewed himself as a vizier of the city, and much of the smooth operation of Naktamun was due to his oversight. He was only sixteen years old, but his dedication to Oketra, solidarity, and learning had elevated him to the position of supervising the other viziers in charge of the city's infrastructure. He also supervised the arrest and detainment of dissenters. Temmet had studied with Kefnet, trained with Rhonas, and even visited the inner sanctum of Hazoret's monument; Bontu is the one god he did not consider an ally. The anointed mummies who carry out most of the mundane labor in Naktamun were technically part of Oketra's domain, but Bontu constantly sought to undermine that authority. Temmet was Oketra's main agent in seeking to assert her claim.[2]

Temmet first encountered the Gatewatch when they stepped through the Hekma, the invisible magic barrier that protected the city of Naktamun. While suspicious, since their clothing and mannerisms told them apart, he agreed to lead them through the city and answered questions about their way of life. He took them before Oketra and the god recognized Gideon as one of her own, which seemed to appease Temmet.[3] Later, he checked with the viziers of Kefnet and learned that the outsiders were never born within the city. When he discovered Jace and Liliana in the embalming chambers, he had his mummies restrain them, but Jace took control of his mind, allowing the two planeswalkers to flee.[4]

Sometime later, he was killed and eternalized.[5]

War of the Spark[]

As an Eternal, Temmet was part of the Dreadhorde invasion of Ravnica. He was killed once more by Samut.[5]

Omenpath Era[]

At some point during the Omenpath Era, Temmet's body was repatriated to Amonkhet.[6] A simple, unadorned pyramid was constructed in the Broken Lands by a crew including Mahitab and Niharet. He was entombed in a sarcophagus and allowed to rest.

2nd Ghirapur Grand Prix[]

In the lead-up to the second Ghirapur Grand Prix, Basri Ket approached his crop-mates Mahitab and Niharet with an offer of a large sum of money in exchange for the location of Temmet's tomb.[7] Basri hoped to awaken the former vizier as part of a larger plan to revive Oketra and heal Naktamun. Though unhappy with the idea, the money proved too enticing and the three headed into the desert together with the human twins Marunaten and Merinaten.

When they arrived at the pyramid, Mahitab led the party to the secretly marked entrance where Basri's sand magic allowed them to excavate the hidden door easily.[6] Just as Basri was opening the sarcophagus, they were interrupted by the Monarch Munhatep, a retinue of five fellow Monarchs, and a living follower. Munhatep demanded Temmet's body in the name of the Chitin Court and The Scarab God and declared an intention to fight for it. Before Basri could respond, he was restrained by a khopesh being held to his throat by Niharet. Munhatep removed Temmet's body and prepared to retreat when Basri's prayers were answered by the arrival of the god Ketramose.

The lion god tore the roof off of the pyramid and peered inside while Munhatep's allies shot arrows at him.[6] When those had no effect, Munhatep attempted to retreat with Temmet's body but was tossed aside by Ketramose. The god proceeded to revive Temmet, freeing him from the charred lazotep and declaring that Temmet would serve Ketramose as he had the god's mother, Oketra. Mahitab felt the revived Temmet seemed dazed, but unafraid when he looked at the lion god, almost like he'd expected this.

Trivia[]

  • Inspired by Tutankhamun, Temmet represented the concept of the boy ruler who became a mummy.[8]
