Teruya Kakumae is a Japanese professional player. He first attracted attention during the 2014–15 season when he won two Grand Prix events, GP Kobe and GP Auckland, and took an early lead in the Grand Prix Player of the Year race.[1] However, he ultimately fell behind in the race to North American players with more ready access to Grand Prix events. In 2016–17, in the Team Series, he joined the Japanese superteam Musashi,[2] which ended up winning the series. His best Pro Tour finish to date is 17th at PT Guilds of Ravnica, in which he lost the win-and-in match for top eight against Jérémy Dezani. In 2018, he won a third Grand Prix event, taking down GP Shizuoka.
