Urza-Mishra War[1] |
The Archimandrite was one of the leaders of the Third Path, who lived in the tallest Ivory Tower in Terisia City.[2]
Description[ | ]
The Archimandrite was a slight woman with dark hair that spilled freely and a pale and narrow face. She was graceful, gliding across the floor and using smooth hand gestures. Though she seemed young, she was older than Loran.[3]
History[ | ]
Hurkyl, Drafna, Feldon, Chayum-Icha, Kathwar and others attended meetings with the Archimandrite of the Order to establish the Third Path, also known as the "Union". They had hoped to create an alliance of magic users, historians, intellectuals, and artificers from across the continent that sought neutrality in the war between Urza and Mishra. Members of this Union were the first to delve into the arcane and rigorously study it, perhaps in all of Terisiare's history. Because of its friendly atmosphere, people of all cultures flocked to Terisia City to join the teams of mages and scholars and seek shelter from the chaos elsewhere. The Union of the Third Path was hailed as a peaceful counterpoint to the two brothers.
It was Hurkyl who taught her meditative technique to the others - a way to concentrate on one's homelands and then gather those energies into oneself, which could then be used for magic. The Archimandrite showed great aptitude at this, and she named these energies "mana".
During the Brothers' War, Mishra decided to eradicate Terisia City. Hajar and his Fallaji laid siege to the city for months, but were unable to defeat it alone. It is possible that Terisia City would have repelled the siege in the end, except for the Brotherhood of Gix who had been welcomed into the Order of the Ivory Towers. They finally betrayed the city and opened the gates to the onslaught, leading to The Fall of Terisia City.[4] Hajar's Fallaji forces were thus able to swarm the city after reducing the Ivory Towers to rubble. The Archimandrite participated in the defense of the city and possibly fell along with it, although a terrible Sandstorm that blew up, obscuring any sight and thus providing refugees cover, was by some accredited to the work of the Archimandrite.[3]
