The Tolarian Temporal Disaster was an event that occurred in 3307 AR on the island of Tolaria, on the plane of Dominaria.
Description[]
After only 22 years of activity, the Tolarian Academy was invaded by Phyrexians despite Urza's efforts at detection and countermeasures. To his dismay, Karn learned that Jhoira, Barrin and Teferi were all killed by Phyrexian negators led by the sleeper agent Kerrick. Urza bid Karn to travel 24 hours back in time to stop the event from happening, which he succeeded in doing by breaking Kerrick's leg and disabling him. Although this meant that Jhoira, Barrin, and Teferi were un-killed, the significant ramifications on the time stream this caused started throwing the time-traveling apparatus out of sync. Karn was rapidly pulled back to his point of origin even as the machine imploded, sending temporal waves across the island. Urza had just enough time to teleport Barrin and thirteen other students and teachers away from the island before the machine ruptured the time stream completely.[1]
Wave after wave of blinding temporal light blasted the academy apart, killing hundreds of students and teachers and forming several fast- and slow-time bubbles across the island of Tolaria where students, teachers, and Phyrexians were trapped. It also tore a Time Rift into the sky above the island, which went unnoticed for centuries.
Karn was left unscathed, despite being in the explosion's epicenter, as his pure silver frame rendered him immune to the time disruption. He helped 33 students and teachers out of the academy's rubble and sailed them away from the island, although they could not find Jhoira. She survived though, eking out a life on the island outside the time bubbles; Kerrick and his Phyrexians were working furiously from within a fast-time bubble, and Teferi was stuck in almost frozen movement within a slow-time bubble. It would be 10 years until Urza and a renewed set of scholars and students returned to the island, and another 13 years for the academy to be completely rebuilt.[1]
