Turi is Kiora's sister, a merfolk who refused to join Gideon's forces at Sea Gate during the Battle for Zendikar, after having seen it fall to the Eldrazi.

History[ | ]

When they were younger, Turi and her sister Kiora had been attacked by a sea serpent. Kiora had screamed for Turi to flee, but when Turi looked back, she saw Kiora being eaten by the serpent. Turi did not know that this event triggered Kiora's spark, sending her away from inside the serpent's mouth to another plane.

When Kiora eventually returned, Turi had almost wasted away with guilt over her sister's perceived death. Kiora promised to always return if Turi always promised to wait for her.

During the Battle for Zendikar, Turi had spent some time at the Sea Gate, before it was attacked by the Eldrazi. When it fell, Turi joined the old loremaster Yenai, becoming part of his merfolk remnant headed to Murasa in the hopes of some place of refuge. On the way, they were suddenly joined by Kiora, who tried to convince them to join her going back to Sea Gate, where Ulamog was headed. But Turi and Yenai had had enough devastation and death and denied Kiora their aid.

Frustrated, Kiora antagonized Yenai with stories of the Trickster god Cosi, took the few recruits she had managed to convince - Shen, Yesha, Tola, Inash, and Runari, and then appointed another merfolk woman to take extra care of her sister while she was away, and swam off.
