Thanks. I like it too but I'm not sure if I'm totally happy with it and if others are too! :) --MM (talk) 09:22, 11 August 2012 (EDT)

I have left this.

Not only are things in real life becoming more of a thing but the wiki and the main forums aren't worth it anymore. Same old stuff, different day.

Have a nice life; to some, I genuinely mean it from the bottom of my heart. --MM (talk) 06:01, 21 August 2012 (EDT)

Okay, I'm still here from now and then. I'm just really burnt out and super busy IRL.
Apparently matters pertaining to marriage... --MM (talk) 07:53, 26 August 2012 (EDT)

Dear MM,

Perhaps you should use this template: {{Blocked|DATE|RATIONALE|ADMIN}}

This may help explain what the heck you're doing.

About Clans[]

Not really sure if Weaver was a clan MOd or not. He wasn't while I was there, but other than that, I have no idea... votan —The preceding unsigned comment was added by votan (talkcontribs) 29 August 2012.

Wiki page about the Wiki[]

I was reading through it and noticed your cry for help :)
I can't really help on this, since I don't really remember it all that well.
I can try to scavenge some information from the Mod Lounge, if you'd like.
The only thing that I can tell you that, from the 4 of us that started the Wiki, I was the least important. My job was simply to moderate the edits and to be a bridge between the other 3 sysops and the Staff (since I was the only Mod on this team, at the time). -votan (talk)

Cry for help? Whaaat? I'll get back to you on this. --Magic Mage (talk) 11:55, 30 August 2012 (EDT)

My master plan[]

On guilds of Ravnica[]

Not to say I've got it, because I haven't; but, I'm going to be rewriting these soon and — surprise — using references. If there's something that can be done for these, it's checking and copy-editing after I've thoroughly destroyed these articles and then gone through them with a razor to cut out the "cruft". I'd appreciate a hand but if it's essentially adapting what I've done or what I'm doing, I earnestly think that your ability be better spent on rewriting the entire article so that it's up to scratch for the rumor season and the upcoming/current set (Return to Ravnica/Gatecrash) or elsewhere.

I'll be addressing guilds in an order according to the amount of material available, and I don't think I'll be able to do much with the Gatecrash guilds in terms up things up to Gatecrash (for obvious reasons).

When Sinker is out or before then, these articles should be done and my next thing would then be whatever's next and things from Magic past, such as Odyssey, Onslaught, and Mirrodin.

Cheers. --Magic Mage (talk) 14:31, 31 August 2012 (EDT)

Open proposal: merging Ravnica Cycle novels into Ravnica Cycle[]

There may be too much content over too many pages. That's about all. We can fill out the pages — Ravnica Cycle novel ones — on the Ravnica Cycle and things will be as fine, assuming we have each synopsis header different from the others (which is done easily enough). --Magic Mage (talk) 12:47, 1 September 2012 (EDT)

One of the things I dislike about Wikipedia is that there's too much of an incentive to click on each link. The thing is, however, one wastes too much time on the 'net. --Magic Mage (talk) 12:47, 1 September 2012 (EDT)

Sorting of Ravnican guilds[]

With specific reference to the Cult of Rakdos and House Dimir, shall we sort these as {{DEFAULTSORT:Rakdos, Cult of}} or leave them as is? --Magic Mage (talk!) 12:59, 1 September 2012 (EDT)

Template for reprints[]

So as to standardise things and not make it such a pain in the butt for us to insert these things (also makes mass changes, if necessary, easy [what's good today may be different tomorrow]!), what if I were to create templates — or templates were created? If you've thoughts on this, please post them below here. Thank you. --Magic Mage (talk!) 09:40, 2 September 2012 (EDT)

Privileges and upload errors[]

Only e-mail-confirmed editors may edit pages. User:Test Account (myself) cannot edit or upload or do anything, not without an e-mail address for that account. This is restrictive; but, ultimately, good for the wiki.

There appears to be some server-side error with uploading images at present. An image has been uploaded by another user, however. This may require looking into.

Observations by yours truly, Better Known as Fascist Mage. :P --Magic Mage (talk!) 12:35, 2 September 2012 (EDT)

Sure, no problem about the archiving. I thought it was rather obvious I'm Hunter on the forums. I actually only frequent the Rumor Mill --Hunter61 (talk) 15:54, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

  • Hey, I'm an sysop! That's nice! --Hunter61 (talk) 06:41, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
That's a shock because Hunter solely hangs out in the Rumor Mill, and Hunter61's edits primarily concern MTG storyline.
I need to get a grip or get it because I'm losing it or have lost it. I shouldn't be back for some soon. --Magic Mage (talk!) 06:45, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Can I delete pages like User talk:Mahiram11 If so, how? --Hunter61 (talk) 07:05, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Hi. This is one way, other than the downward arrow by the go/search box and delete way:
  1. Take the URL:
  2. Append &action=delete to the end
  3. Fill in things, click things
  4. Voila!
Now you try! --Magic Mage (talk!) 07:10, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Got it! Needed to find the downward arrow. --Hunter61 (talk) 07:36, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
Sorry. Should've uploaded an image and linked it. If you wouldn't mind, could you and the other fresh meat (sorry! I mean this humorously and lovingly, of course) post your contact details here. It's hidden from the majority of the site on MTGS and is about as private as we can get things.
It's in case something's up and MTGS Wiki and Forums don't cut it. Cheers. --Magic Mage (talk!) 07:53, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

On (1) Contribs and (2) hiding Contribs on Main Page[]

On (2), I'm trying to do something about that.

On (1), I asked Hannes to install an extension to display this. Are we interested in the reasoning (other than "for kicks")? It's ... interesting but not newsworthy or anything. I'm trying to have an opt out for this.

All around, thanks, everyone for your work. Collectively, y'all deserve cookies and barnstars. :P

Not a notable card in Alliances (only) but generally. Should we have an article on this card and the Cult of the Crow? I'm thinking yes, funnily enough. --Magic Mage (talk!) 08:02, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

Notes to fellow sysops[]

To my fellow sysops, please move images and links to images to file names that are more descriptive; to wit, in this manner: [EXPANSION CODE] [PRODUCT NAME].[file extension]. Thank you very much. --Magic Mage (talk!) 07:38, 5 October 2012 (EDT)

I'm referring to Category:Magic product images. If possible, also please improve the theme deck image by finding a better-quality, higher-resolution official-source image and also move them to Category:Magic preconstructed deck images‎. It would also be great to use these on theme deck articles at a fixed resolution of 250 px.
Thanks, guys. --Magic Mage (talk!) 07:40, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
Good to have these links here nevertheless. It saves me time looking them up or clicking on my watchlist. --Magic Mage (talk!) 13:52, 6 October 2012 (EDT)

You might want to block these users User:Elnorbert38, User:Krcontes52. They look like gimmicks. Kraken Chowder 101 (talk) 13:23, 7 October 2012 (EDT)

Thanks. GeoMike has blocked the users in question. (Thanks go to him too.) --Magic Mage (talk!) 07:54, 8 October 2012 (EDT)

infobox expansion[]

Thanks. Speaking of that, I got a few questions:

  • I've been putting the expansion logo in the Set Name parameter (so that there is no text in that part of the infobox, only the image). Is that correct? I absed it off the Innistrad page. Personally I think it looks better.
  • Has it been considered that putting the italicisation for the chronology within the infobox code would be simpler? I do realise it requires most infobox to be edited, I know, but then most of them are not consistent anyway...
  • Should the Duel of the Planeswalkers games really be treated as expansions? With the infobox and presence in the chronology at the bottom of it?

Circeus (talk) 13:49, 30 October 2012 (EDT)

It is often the case on Wikipedia that there is a name atop of an infobox, as part of it. I believe it is more elegant that we do thus.
Italicisation could be incorporated into the code; but, for cases where the first set is the page of interest, this would mess with things. However, this can be done for things such as this set, previous set, and next set. I'll consider this but rolling this out will take some some man-hours due to the sheer number of pages.
Duel of the Planeswalkers, IMO, shouldn't be treated as expansions. More thoughts on this later. --Magic Mage (talk!) 22:39, 1 November 2012 (EDT)
I've already gone through the pages for names (and apparently needs to do so again to re-add the non-logo name), so I don't mind going through again.
Re: "for cases where the first set is the page of interest, this would mess with things.", you mean that bolding (since all set names ought to be in italics anyway!) is impossible to make automatic in the "block" section infobox, right? I see that the wiki has ParserFunctions installed. I'm familiar with it and can use it to make the necessary implementations (including hiding unused sections, like the "block" listing which currently is made with a separate Template:Expansion Nonblock) Circeus (talk) 10:25, 3 November 2012 (EDT)
Sorry. I'm not cranky or anything with you; though, I'm sort of confused (I can deal with anything pretty much routine) and I might be generally grouchy. This might be too much info but Tom's in town. --Magic Mage (talk!) 11:14, 3 November 2012 (EDT)
I know an easy mean to fix the bolding issue too. It would require redirects for a few sets where the name used in the chronology section of the infobox differs from the article name, but I believe only the duel decks and some core sets would be affected (and I personally think having a Jace v. Chandra redirects is sensible). I'll try to write up a new version in my userspace. How does that sound? Circeus (talk) 11:26, 3 November 2012 (EDT)
Thank you for your edits and your eagerness, Circeus. For the time being, we're trying to thrash out some of the issues with the wiki, largely with standards and templating. I don't recommend making too many edits to templates at the moment; rather, it's better to discuss these things for now.
I'll be sleeping for the next few hours and mightn't be back till some time. We'll see. Sorry for any inconvenience. --Magic Mage (talk!) 14:11, 3 November 2012 (EDT)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Hi Circeus. Still haven't formulated a proper reply but that by and large sounds good. TBH we're not sure what we want and change is the work of insane people (but we need insane people).

I believe Shaw once said, "All progress depends on the unreasonable man." or something. --Magic Mage (talk!) 05:17, 6 November 2012 (EST)

Category hierarchy[]

  • Magic storyline locations - obv.
    • Category:Cosmology - kill this category
    • Plane - obv.
      • Block - for all general things of the plane but not of the storyline
        • Cycles - for all general things of the plane but of the storyline
          • Characters - for all characters of the plane; though it says block, it's everything, including storyline
        • Block intro packs/theme decks
      • Some card game things
        • Some card game things

Awkward how messed up the categorisation is. --Magic Mage (talk!) 22:39, 1 November 2012 (EDT)

I reckon removing cosmology was a good idea. There were too many levels to your categorisation pyramid. If I can suggest something, merge block and cycle. The difference is so subtle. --Kraken Chowder 101 (talk) 06:40, 8 November 2012 (EST)
I think that isn't a bad idea. Wikipedia really doesn't discriminate between the two. Moreover, there are some blocks that do not have cycles, which messes with the categorization scheme ... unless we completely skip the cycle category ... which I have no problem with doing.
There is one problem that I can immediately see with this. Those cases where you have a cycle and block that aren't known by the same name. (Or maybe that's not a problem. Or I'm not articulating this properly.) --Magic Mage (talk!) 06:49, 8 November 2012 (EST)

Re: Slobad[]

Not done with it yet. It will be consistently headed once I have. Also, I'd prefer you reach me on the forums via message, not the wiki. Thanks in advance. Barinellos (talk) 04:31, 8 November 2012 (EST)

Uh oh what are you guys trying to hide from us? --Kraken Chowder 101 (talk) 06:38, 8 November 2012 (EST)
Don't ask me. ¯\(°_O)/¯ What am I doing now? --Magic Mage (talk!) 06:49, 8 November 2012 (EST)

Why so protected?[]

Why are so many pages getting locked from edits? Templates I can understand, but Lorwyn? Half the Ravnica guilds are protected, RTR itself is protected, the entire From the Vault and Duel Decks series are protected (well, not TvS and VvK, but they have the templates)! What has got you so scared about people editing these pages? Circeus (talk) 12:57, 16 November 2012 (EST)

  1. I'm a fascist.
  2. "Behind every mistrustful girl are guys that made her that way."
Sorry, I'll try to properly answer you soon. I'll consider changing access privileges so that individual users, such as yourself, can actually edit past through the protection and actually do things here.
OMG, Mark Rosewater is violating my ear! I'm listening to a "drive-to-work" podcast and his voice is loud and strange-sounding... --Magic Mage (talk!) 13:48, 16 November 2012 (EST)
I mean, issues other than the spam that every small wiki gets (I HAVE noticed you're constantly blocking spammers).
Well, it's not entirely common knowledge but we're working on some things, some of which are tech, policy, and management things, before we veer from this course. Some of these things involve Hannes, and he's a busy fella.
Things should be different in 2013. Thanks for bearing with it all. --Magic Mage (talk!) 22:42, 16 November 2012 (EST)

template:Arcref problem[]

At some point in August 2008 the Magic arcana url changed from "mtgcom/arcana" to "mtg/daily/arcana", as a result no arcana later than that month can be linked with the Arcref template. Circeus (talk) 16:15, 18 November 2012 (EST)

Arcref, if I recall correctly, accommodates for both the old (with the addition of "|old") and new IIRC. It'd probably be better were the default template to work for the old ones considering no one went through the old arcana references and fixed those up (again, IIRC). I'm not sure what I'm getting at but I'm trying to move away from Arcref and Featref and simply reply on Cite Daily MTG/DailyRef. --Magic Mage (talk!) 23:22, 18 November 2012 (EST)

Re: My contributions[]

Not a problem! I'm going to try to fix up those rules pages whenever I have the time for it. :) --SyntheticDreamer 01:26, 28 November 2012 (EST)

Mark Rosewater on premiums, foils, holos[]

Torment and other[]

Hi there, this morning I tried to edit the article on Torment for grammer and some other minor stuff, only to find it locked. I also saw that the history of the article was scrubbed. The same is true for several other articles in various categories. May I ask what happened and why I don't have editing rights? Chaosof99 (talk) 09:11, 3 December 2012 (EST)

  • It's grammar.
  • Is it really grammatical things (and "some other minor stuff") that you intend to fix?
  • You have editor rights but they do not extend to pages with higher-level access. If you can fix access rights, maybe then you'd be good as you may or may not have proven yourself (I don't know; if we conduct a review, maybe then we'll have a better idea).
  • Whatever edits you'd like to make, edit them into the talk page, then we'll see about things then. Cheers. --Magic Mage (talk!) 18:33, 3 December 2012 (EST)

Use singular. More intuitive. Less pipe-tricking. --Magic Mage (talk!) 02:18, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

When categorising, use appropriate categorisation (more to come). Also, for consistency's sake, categorise thus: [[Category:{{Category name}}]]. Note the capitalisation of "Category" and the absence of space after "Category".
