Description[ | ]
Chief Chemister Varryvort is a goblin working with the Izzet League, known for their intricate inventions and experimental prowess. Varryvort is diligent and dedicated to his work, taking pride in the construction and finalization of the Interplanar Beacon. He is thorough, ensuring that every detail is meticulously checked. He is respectful and mindful of his superiors, as he bows and addresses Ral Zarek with deference. He also shows a sense of responsibility and cautiousness by involving Ral in the security lockout sequence, emphasizing the importance of safety and security in their work.
History[ | ]
Varryvort played a critical role in the construction of the Interplanar Beacon, which was the backup plan designed by Niv-Mizzet should the Ten Guilds fail to grant him the power of the living Guildpact. The beacon was complex, filled with intricate machinery and resonators, and Varryvort was in charge of its inner workings. He ensured everything was on track and functional.[1]
However, Varryvort's role took a dramatic turn when it was revealed that he had been impersonated by Lazav, the shapeshifting guildmaster of House Dimir. Lazav's deception was unveiled when he morphed out of Varryvort's form. Lavaz had not killed Varryvort, just incapacitated him. Lazav took Varryvort's place to observe the meeting of the Guilds and potentially manipulate events. This twist added tension to the summit, as it cast doubt on the entire security and integrity of the guilds' operations against Nicol Bolas.[2]
