Velocity counters are a type of counter introduced in Alliances. They act as a marker representing a form of thematic increasing speed.
Description[ | ]
Velocity counters first appeared on Tornado in Alliances. It is an enchantment with the ability to destroy any permanent while adding a Velocity counter to itself. The player must then pay 3 life for each counter on it when activating the ability again. This forces an increasing cost to use the ability to represent the increasing speed of the tornado.
The counters appeared again on Daredevil Dragster in Aether Revolt. One of the counters is added to it whenever it attacks or blocks. Whenever it gains 2 of these counters it must be sacrificed with the player drawing two cards. In this case, they represent the increasing speed and destruction of the vehicle.

- In Magic Online, the counter is colored orange as its considered a negative effect and shares its icon with Feather, Vortex, and Wind counters.[1]
