Antiquities War[1] |
The Warlord of Kroog was king of the nation of Yotia and father of Kayla bin-Kroog.
History[ | ]
The Warlord of Kroog, whose real name is not known, was the ruler of Yotia near the end of the Time of Legends.
He had spent in early years in battle, married late, and fathered still later.[2]
When his daughter came of age, instead of arranging her marriage the traditional way, he announced a contest that whoever managed to move the statue in his square would be the one to marry his daughter. The Warlord did this, imagining the strongest suitor would take the prize. However, none of the suitors who showed up to the contest managed to lift the statue.
Then Urza, who had been apprenticed to Rusko the clockmaker for a time, asked if he could attempt. The request was granted, and Urza used an automaton he had built for this specific purpose, to successfully lift the statue. Thus, Urza gained the hand of Lady Kayla.
The Warlord continued to rule his nation until the Peace Summit at Korlinda, where talks turned sour. The peace summit broke down over talks of the Sword Marches, which three generations earlier had been called the "Suwwardi Marches" before Yotia drove the Fallaji from that land. The Warlord and the Qadir began spitting insults and threats at one another, and when the Warlord activated the squad of ornithopters, dropping bombs on the dragon engine, everything fell into chaos. The Qadir drew his saber and stabbed the warlord in the chest, killing him. In retaliation, Urza's automaton grabbed the Qadir by the neck, choking him, but Ashnod used her Staff of Zegon to weaken it, forcing it to release the Qadir. Urza tried to strengthen it with his Mightstone, but Mishra used the Weakstone, overloading it and making it explode. The Fallaji then fled the scene, Ashnod dragging the coughing Qadir behind her.[2]
After his death, his daughter would receive the title of Queen of Kroog, and Urza would lead the nation's armies.
Many years later, a man named Fask would claim the title of Warlord, but by then, Kroog was already a crumbling ruin.
