Worzel was a planeswalker mentioned in the Alpha rulebook. She fought Thomil on at least two occasions, at least once on the plane of Ergamon. Worzel travels with her companion Roreca, who helps her to locate mana lines. She specializes in green magic with some limited skill with blue, red, and white. She is not fond of black mana and considers its use to be "fighting dirty."

Prior to the Events of "Roreca's Tale"

After being routed by Thomil's use of red mana in a previous duel, Worzel visited Cabralin, where she sought out an expert in white magic to teach her protective spells. She offered this wizard her Glasses of Urza as payment, but the mage remained unwilling to teach her. She coerced this wizard into instructing her by defeating him in a duel, though she allowed him to keep the artifact afterward. Even after this instruction, she is far from a master of white mana--Roreca considered her healing skills passable at best.

Duel on Ergamon

Thomil's Lord of the Pit turns on him, ending the duel.

Thomil's Lord of the Pit turns on him, ending the duel.

While traveling the plane of Ergamon, Worzel's wards alerted her to the presence of Thomil, an old enemy. He sent undead after her and killed one of her summoned bears with Terror. She held him off with a Circle of Protection: Black until his own summoned Lord of the Pit overwhelmed him. He fled the plane and his summoned demon vanished after raging about the countryside for a time.

Roreca

Roreca is Worzel's familiar and narrator of the short story "Roreca's Tale." Her species is unknown, but some details are mentioned. The species is intelligent, has thick fur, has two sets of teeth as an adult, wags its tail when pleased, and has males who are smaller than the females (who are three times the weight of a human) but possess "acid sacs" as a defense mechanism. It is unknown if Roreca's ability to sniff out mana lines is unique to her or found in other members of this species.

Roreca is not fond of Scryb Sprites, which are often summoned by her master. The sprites call her "Roreca Kamf", meaning "Roreca Blanket," because they once stole a square foot of her fur to make a bedspread. The familiar endured great pain during Worzel's efforts to heal her and the missing fur didn't grow back, instead being replaced by a tattoo.

Though far larger than a human, Roreca seems to have little interest in combat and cowers inside Worzel's protective wards during duels.
