Yolotzin was a human warrior-poet from Ixalan.
History[ | ]
Yolotzin was a revered figure from a bygone era, bearing the prestigious title of warrior-poet. Born into a tumultuous time when the Sun Empire was nascent and expansive, her early life was marked by profound tragedy. Her village was conquered, and her family was killed, but her linguistic skills and beautiful voice led to her being taken to the capital. As she matured, she earned the title of warrior-poet from the emperor, serving as the imperial conscience. Yolotzin was driven by a long-standing desire for revenge against those who destroyed her village. She became the moral and artistic voice of the empire, using her position to influence and inspire. When she passed away, the empire mourned deeply. The streets were said to have been flooded with tears, and the emperor wandered the halls of Tocatli, mourning her loss and seeking her ghost for just one more stanza of her poetry.
Huatli recounted Yolotzin’s story to Saheeli to illustrate a legacy of resilience and determination. Despite facing overwhelming adversity and the loss of her family, Yolotzin rose to a position of great influence. She channeled her pain into poetry and service, impacting the empire profoundly. Yolotzin’s story is a metaphor for enduring and resisting overwhelming odds, much like the challenges Huatli and Saheeli faced in their struggle to protect their planes and the Multiverse.[1]
