Zar Ojanen is an Efravan leonin warrior with a muscular build from Dominaria. She is the sister of Pallar Ojanen and aunt of Lark Ojanen.

Description[]

Efrava, once a verdant oasis amid the Jamuraan desert, is no more, lost to a nameless calamity of the past. The leonin that once inhabited this land are far from extinct, though. While some have scattered to the far corners of Dominaria, Zar Ojanen, a descendent of the fearsome mercenary Jedit Ojanen, now leads a caravan of Efravans as they travel through Jamuraa. Zar's heart is devoted to guiding and protecting her people, and she is as capable a warrior as her ancestor, more than willing to cross blades with any who threaten her caravan.[1]

History[]

The Efravan, a group of leonin and other mixed humanoid refugees, had been wandering the Great Desert, fleeing their homeland due to the threat of Phyrexian invasion. Zar, along with her pregnant sister Pallar and other Efravan, sought refuge from the ongoing conflicts.[2]

Niambi, a healer and interpreter of dreams, had been a compassionate ally to the Efravan, offering medical aid and support despite the risk of being shunned by her people. Her husband, Denik, also supported their cause by ensuring safe passage and supplies for the Efravan. They struggled to find sanctuary behind the city walls, facing prejudice and hostility from the local population and the city's authorities, particularly from the magistrate, Teshunda, and his council.[2]

As the Phyrexian threat loomed closer, Niambi urged the magistrate to reconsider his stance on the refugees. Through her healing and prophetic insights, she likened the situation to a dream of birds finding and healing a diseased tree, representing the Efravan's potential positive impact on the city.[2]

As Niambi and Teshunda visited the secret refuge in an abandoned mine where the Efravan had taken shelter, Pallar had just given birth to a child named Lark. Teshunda, moved by the sight of the newborn and the resolve of Zar and her people, decided to grant them asylum in the city of Femeref, acknowledging the need for allies against the impending Phyrexian threat. The story concluded with the hopeful integration of the Efravan into the city, despite opposition from fearful members of the city's council.[2]
