Zeki was a Reef pirate on Ulgrotha around the time of the Homelands (ca. 3800 AR).
Description[ | ]
Zeki was a pirate who balanced ruthless pragmatism with a deep understanding of the sea's many threats and opportunities. His leadership of the Reef Pirates was marked by a strategic use of undead forces, a disdain for living adversaries, and a keen eye for treasure and survival in the perilous waters of Ulgrotha. This combination made him a formidable and feared figure on the high seas.
Zeki was a figure shrouded in both pragmatism and ruthlessness. Known for his crew of zombie corsairs, he navigated the treacherous seas with a cold, calculated efficiency. Unlike many pirates driven purely by villainy, Zeki's decision to sail with a crew of the undead stemmed from practical considerations rather than sheer malice. This pragmatic approach ensured that his crew remained relentless and unwavering, immune to fear and fatigue.[1]
His views on other factions were marked by a sense of superiority and disdain. He believed that no living dwarf could rival his undead crew[2], and he regarded dwarven traders with a cynical eye, asserting that their definition of fair profit was dubious at best.[3] Zeki's contempt for the Dwarven Sea Clans extended to the Labyrinth Minotaurs, whose legendary treasure cave intrigued him, yet remained elusive.[4] His extensive knowledge of the sea and its dangers was evident in his awareness of threats like sea kelp[5] and the ferocity of sea trolls.[6] His pragmatic nature extended to his understanding of various sea hazards and the horrors within Baron Sengir's vault, reflecting his keen awareness of the perils surrounding him.[1]
Others viewed Zeki and his crew with a mix of fear and disdain. Joskun, an An-Havva Constable, found the idea of a zombie crew repulsive and preferred to keep his distance.[7] Conversely, Baron Sengir acknowledged Zeki's pragmatism, recognizing the practical benefits of an undead crew over the living. This dichotomy highlighted Zeki's complex character, a blend of cold logic and relentless pursuit of power.[8]
Given that hundreds of years have passed since his natural lifetime, it is likely that Zeki is long dead. Given the company he kept, though, he may have ended up as an undead like his own crew.
