Zoraline is a batfolk cleric from Goodhill on Bloomburrow, and a member of Mabel’s party.[1]
Description[ | ]
Zoraline is a dark-furred bat with a high and dreamy voice.[2][3] She usually wears flowing dresses that flutter around her when she flies.
Zoraline can steal magic from enemy mages, releasing it with a keening prayer-song.[2]
Zoraline is from one of the longest batfolk lineages, traced meticulously back to the time of Lily Emberseed.[4] She is also the second in line for the prestigious head cleric role at the largest church in Three Tree City, though she keeps this a secret.
History[ | ]
The haughty ceremonies and the clamorous singing that echoed through Three Tree City at night didn't resonate with Zoraline's desire to explore and analyze the night sky.[4] One day, around 4564 AR, she set off with just a note to announce her departure. She didn't make it far before perching in the town of Goodhill for a week's rest.
When Mabel ventured to investigate the destruction of Pondside, Zoraline volunteered to accompany her because she was "unsettled by the alignment of the stars" and believed that Pondside was the "lodestone to guide" her where she was needed.[3] It wasn't just altruism that sent her adventuring. She'd gladly miss a few sermons more if it meant a practical lesson in adventuring was in store.[4] Gev, Hugs, Finneas and Helga also joined the party.
